Love one another

The Babo Nanum Foundation(a.k.a. Stephen Cardinal Kim Foundation) was established in February 2010, one year after the passing of Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan, to carry forward the spirit of love and sharing embodied by Cardinal Kim, who humbly referred to himself as a “fool.”

Throughout his life, Cardinal Kim stood with the poor and marginalized and served as a steadfast advocate for democracy, human rights, and social justice in Korean society. Even after his passing, he continued to embody love through the donation of his corneas.

Babo Nanum, which means “the Fool’s sharing” in Korean, is an independent private foundation dedicated to fundraising and grantmaking. Operating without government funding, it seeks to realize Cardinal Kim’s vision of a world where every person can live with dignity.

In the spirit of his belief, the foundation extends support to neighbors in need, regardless of race, nationality, religion, or ideology.

Babo Nanum’s logo reflects the love that Cardinal Kim emphasized throughout his life — a love that becomes “rice,” sustaining and nourishing others. Its bowl-shaped form, symbolizing two hands facing one another in an embrace, embodies the spirit of Babo Nanum: the shared sense of togetherness that connects us all.
